Chinese heat treatment and/or moxabustion is commonly used in association with acupuncture. It involves the use of a warming, infra-red heat lamp, which penetrates deeply into the bodily tissues, bringing relaxed warmth and invigoration to the local area.
Alternatively, the burning of moxa (a finely ground, dried herb) can be used over acupoints and near to the skin. Heat is absorbed by the point and so increases the energy level of a particular meridian and its related organ.
It is predominantly used to supplement deficiencies and to resolve stagnant cold. In cool temperate countries like Britain, cold disorders are more prevalent and moxibustion is especially useful. |
